xCoefficient Inc. (“Chronotype,” “we,” “us,” “our”) built the Chronotype app (“App,” together with related services, the “Services”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who uses the Services.
Name, email address, date of birth/age, and other details you enter to personalize the app (e.g., goals, weight, sleep targets). This information is stored locally on your device and is not tied to a Chronotype account or login.
With your explicit permission granted through iOS system prompts, we read data such as:
We refer to this collectively as “Health Data.” You control this at all times via iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Chronotype, and can revoke any or all permissions at any time.
Chat messages with any coach, meal photos or descriptions you log (including nutrition information you obtain by scanning a barcode, which is matched against third-party nutrition databases — see Section 3), voice audio during voice coaching sessions, survey responses, and support communications.
Basic request metadata (such as device type, app version, and operating system) visible to our backend infrastructure in the course of operating the Services. We also collect limited usage and interaction analytics — for example, which Agents you view, add, or launch — associated with a device identifier. This information is used to understand and improve the Services and to help detect and prevent abuse. It is not linked to your name or email, and is not used for advertising.
General, city-level location (accurate to roughly 3 km) used together with a weather data provider to provide relevant weather context in coaching.
If you purchase a subscription or other paid feature, that transaction is handled entirely by Apple’s App Store in-app purchase system. We do not receive or store your payment card details. We receive only a confirmation of purchase/entitlement from Apple’s systems, sufficient to unlock the applicable features — see our Terms of Service for how paid features are structured.
We use the information above to:
We do not use Health Data for advertising, and we do not sell Health Data. We do not build advertising profiles from your Health Data.
We share information only as described here, with the following categories of service providers:
AI / LLM Service Providers. To generate coaching messages, derived and summarized health metrics (not raw Apple Health data — see Section 4) and your chat context are transmitted to our AI/LLM provider(s) for processing. Text and vision-based coaching conversations are routed through our own backend infrastructure before reaching our AI provider; live voice coaching sessions connect your device directly to our AI provider’s real-time voice service, using a short-lived access token issued by our backend. These providers process this data under their own data processing terms; where available, we use enterprise/API-tier agreements that exclude your data from being used to train the provider’s general models.
Nutrition Data Providers. When you scan a barcode or log a food item, we query one or more third-party nutrition databases via our backend to retrieve nutrition facts. Nutrition data from these sources is displayed with the attribution their terms require.
Weather Data Provider. We use a third-party weather data provider, together with your approximate location, to provide weather context in coaching, subject to that provider’s terms.
Infrastructure Providers. Our backend, hosting, and the Agents catalog run on third-party cloud infrastructure, bound by confidentiality and data protection obligations.
Legal & Safety. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or if we believe in good faith it’s necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of Chronotype, our users, or the public.
Business Transfers. If Chronotype is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy (or a policy providing equivalent protection).
We do not sell your personal information or Health Data, as those terms are defined under applicable law, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
In accordance with Apple’s guidelines for apps that use HealthKit:
The Services are not intended to, and do not, comply with HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act). We are not a HIPAA “covered entity” or “business associate,” and Health Data you provide through the Services is not treated as HIPAA-protected health information. If you have specific concerns about sharing clinical or medical-record-level information, do not use the Services for that purpose.
Most of your information — your profile, logged meals, activity plans, AI coaching history, and derived health scores — is stored locally on your device, not in a persistent database on our servers, and remains there for as long as you keep the App installed. In the course of using the Services, derived and summarized versions of some of this information are also transmitted to our AI, nutrition, and weather providers to generate coaching and results — see Section 3 for what’s sent and to whom. You can clear all of your locally-stored data at any time using the “Delete All My Data” control in Profile → Privacy — this clears your profile, logged meals, activity plans, AI coaching history, and derived health scores from your device, and returns the App to its initial setup state. You may also remove all locally-stored information by deleting the App. Information transmitted to our AI, nutrition, or weather providers in the course of using the Services is retained by those providers according to their own data retention practices and any agreements we have with them, except where retention is required for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Depending on your state of residence, you may have the right to:
To exercise these rights, use the in-app controls described above, or contact us at support@xcoefficient.com. Because the Services do not currently require a Chronotype account, most of these rights can be exercised directly and immediately without contacting us; where you do contact us directly, we may need to verify your identity or ask you to describe your device/usage before fulfilling a request.
California residents have the rights described above, plus the right to non-discrimination for exercising them. Health Data may be considered “sensitive personal information” under the CPRA; we do not use or disclose it for purposes beyond providing the Services.
California residents may also reach the Complaint Assistance Unit of the California Department of Consumer Affairs in writing at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or by phone at (800) 952-5210 or (916) 445-1254.
Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws (e.g., Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Washington, Nevada) have similar rights to those listed above.
The Services are not directed to individuals under 18. New users are required to confirm they are at least 18 during setup, and the date-of-birth entry does not permit selecting an under-18 birth date, so we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Most information a user enters is stored locally on their own device, not on our servers (see Section 5) — if you believe a child has used the Services, go to that device and use the “Delete All My Data” control in Profile → Privacy to delete it.
Your information is currently processed and stored on servers located in the United States.
The Services may contain links to third-party websites or services (including HealthKit-connected apps and our nutrition and weather data providers). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. Review their policies separately.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you (e.g., via in-app notice or email) before the changes take effect. The “Last Updated” date above reflects the most recent revision.
